Almaty, Kazakhstan – On March 15-16, 2016 the conference “Civil Society In Support of Good Governance: Best Practices and Approaches” will be held Almaty (address: Temiryazeva St. 42, “Atakent Park Hotel”). The conference will be organized by the Eurasia Foundation of Central Asia and UNDP in Kazakhstan as part of USAID’s “Good Governance Initiative.” The conference begins at 9:30; a question-answer session for journalists will be held during the coffee break. Can government and civil society work together to support good governance? Can individual NGOs change the quality of life for an entire region? Conference participants, including representatives of regional non-governmental and international organizations, government agencies in Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, and mass media, can find answers to these questions during the event. Participants will have the opportunity to share experiences implementing projects and programs in diverse spheres of governance, discuss successes and challenges associated with NGO and government collaboration, receive recommendations on the resolution of diverse issues, and network with diverse organizations. During plenary sessions and master classes, conference participants will address such themes as good governance, civil society development, legislative regulations governing NGO activities, and engagement with government agencies. The conference will also include sessions to discuss challenges faced by people with disabilities and people living with HIV. In addition, the conference will feature a craft sale of items created by people with disabilities. The “Good Governance Initiative Fund (GGIF)” is a project supported by the US Agency for International Development and implemented by the Eurasia Foundation of Central Asia (EFCA) in Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.
